Do you love children, especially babies, toddlers and preschoolers? Learning Lab is currently recruiting for an assistant in our Early Childhood Family Literacy Classrooms. Hours are 9 am to 3 pm, Monday through Thursday, with a one hour lunch break. This position pays $9.50 to $10.50 per hour depending upon experience.

Job Summary The Family Literacy Early Childhood Assistant is an essential member of the education staff that provides 4 component family literacy services (adult education, child education, Parent & Child Together time and parent time) to functionally illiterate adults and their 0-6 year old children. The assistant will work under the direction of the Early Childhood Educators, providing support in the Infant/Toddler and/or Preschool Classroom. The assistant will “float” between classrooms, depending on activities, student attendance and the needs of students and educators.
Key Job Responsibilities
Assist Preschool Educator and/or Infant/Toddler Educator with teaching students aged 0-6 who are enrolled in the Learning Lab’s Preschoolers & Parents as Partners (PPP) family literacy program. Prepare and implement developmentally appropriate activities for children as requested Interact and engage with children, parents and volunteers in a positive, supportive and nurturing manner Monitor safety of children at all times Assist with snack preparation Observe and record children’s developmental progress & share information with classroom teacher Model and support appropriate interactions for PPP parents as they participate in intergenerational activities during Parent & Child Together (PACT) time Assume class leadership in absence of educator Maintain sanitary conditions during diaper changing, food handling, etc. Help with daily clean-up routines such as sweeping, sanitizing toys, etc. Qualifications Able to work cooperatively as a team member Positive attitude Enthusiastic and enjoys being with young children and their parents Comfortable working with families from a variety of backgrounds who have a wide range of functional literacy High school graduate or GED with early childhood classroom experience; CDA preferred Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check CPR and First Aid certification preferred Excellent work ethic
Provide safe, orderly & clean environment for children
Assist with children’s personal hygiene (i.e. diaper changing, hand-washing.)
Must be punctual, have regular and reliable attendance
