I can barely wait for this year's Lunch for Literacy. My first lunch was back in the 90s, and as a member of the Junior League, I joined several members in attending. At the time my only priority was that I didn't want to miss out on any fun. By the end of the first lunch, I was so grateful to live in a community, with such an important resource and had only started to understand that many people have different levels of ability and how it can impact their lives. I have attended every Lunch for Literacy -- it's an important part of my year.
I am dedicated to The Lab because it provides a life long gift to the students. Even with a fabulous keynote speaker, the student speaker is always my favorite part. A previous student said (paraphrasing) "my Mother told me they could take your house, your land, and even your family, but they can never take away your education." The words frequently replay through my head.
All I can say is please come, please come...it will be the best part of your day!
